It’s been quite a year for Bernadette Laxamana, Partner Broker of VERICO XEVA Mortgage.
Bernadette won the CMA Mortgage Broker Of The Year Award, Fewer Than 25 Employees on May 12th.
The 14 year veteran of the business was also recognized last November during the Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame when she won the Mentor of the Year award.
Q: What was going through your mind as they announced your name for the Mortgage Broker Of The Year Award?
A: I was amazingly surprised I remember saying…”Oh my gosh….wow I can’t believe it!”, I was psyching myself to be ready if they called somebody else’s name. But I’m so thrilled to have been given this honour.
Q: How do you make yourself and your business stand out in this industry?
A: By being purposeful, caring and working hard. My purpose has evolved significantly, while my business and relationships have transformed along with it. My purpose is to make a positive lasting difference in people’s lives – I am this way with clients, team, friends and family. I care deeply for my people and work hard to make each day better than yesterday.
Q: What advice can you provide to those aspiring to achieve more in their career?
A: Know your purpose in life, have goals (which means always be hungry), have an insatiable thirst to learn (read, take courses, talk to industry leaders), and work hard to improve everything everyday. Robin Sharma said small daily improvements over time lead to lasting results.
